Daylight Harvesting

Daylight Harvesting Daylight Harvesting

Daylight harvesting in its simplest form exactly what it says – harvesting daylight to be used internally, by combining natural light and window shades and coverings with artificial light and lighting control, to achieve specific room brightness goals.

The building controls industry uses the term to indicate a building control system that reduces artificial light levels (and thus energy consumption) when more natural light is available.

As natural light is "harvested" and measured by an ambient light meter, a lighting control automatically adjusts the light level and/or the window covering system automatically adjusts the window shades coverings so that the natural and artificial light work together to provide the desired light level in a given room.

This, in turn, can utilize a couple of different window covering systems (LouverShade or Daylight Harvesting Louvers) to increase the amount of light reflected into the room, and at the same time control the amount of glare in the room.
